Weather
In summer (December –March) average maximum temperature ranges between 20-30C and in winter (June-August) between 10-15C.
Post
More than 1000 New Zealand Post shops located in cities and provincial towns are open on weekdays from 9am to 5pm. Some open on Saturday until noon. Postcards to all international destinations cost $1.50.
Banking
- Banks are open from 9am to 4.30pm, Monday to Friday.
- Automated teller machines (ATM) are widely available. There are ANZ, ASB banks and others.
Currency
Foreign currency can be exchanged for the NZ$ at banks and foreign exchange kiosks, and at international airports. Major credit cards are accepted and travellers cheques can be used at hotels, banks and some stores.
GST
All goods and services in New Zealand are subject to a 12.5% goods and services tax. The tax is usually included in the goods price unless otherwise stated.
Tipping and Service Charges
New Zealanders do not expect tips for normal service but for excellent service it is appreciated.
Bars and Restaurants.
- The minimum age for buying alcohol is 18
- Smoking is not allowed in bars, restaurants or other indoor public places.
Driving
- You are allowed to drive for one year on your own home country driving licence
- Whilst driving you must carry your licence with you at all times
- In New Zealand driving is on the left-hand side of the road.
- 100km/h is the speed limit on the open road and motorways.
- Seat belts are compulsory
- When turning left, give way to traffic crossing or approaching from your right.
